Privacy
Your information deserves the same care as the room.
This policy explains what Tycoon collects, why it is collected, and the choices available to you. Effective 10 September 2026.
At collection
What we collect and why.
When you join the interest list, request an invitation, make a nomination, or contact Tycoon, we collect what you type: your name, email address, current role and organization, city and region, a professional link, your written responses, how you heard about Tycoon, and the name of anyone who nominated you. We also record the exact wording of the consent you agreed to, and when.
Every submission additionally records a small amount of technical information, automatically: a one-way salted hash of your IP address, your browser's user-agent string, the page that referred you, and any campaign tags in the link you followed.
We store a hash of your IP address rather than the address itself. It is used to limit how many submissions can arrive from one source in an hour, and to identify automated abuse. It cannot be reversed into your IP address.
We use this information to administer the interest list, evaluate invitation requests and nominations, respond to inquiries, communicate decisions and updates, operate Tycoon, protect the integrity of selection, and meet legal or security obligations.
Our forms include a hidden field that people do not see and automated systems tend to fill in. A submission that fills it is recorded and marked as spam.
Nominations
Information received from someone else.
A nominator may give Tycoon information about another person. We record the nominator's name, email address and professional link, their written answers about the person they are nominating, and whether they told us that person knows about the nomination.
A nomination does not cause us to email the person nominated. If we approach someone who was nominated, that is a separate and deliberate decision. The first approach will explain that a nomination was received and identify the nominator. If a nominator does not give us the nominee's email address, we do not seek it out; the record is filed under a placeholder.
We ask nominators to provide only information they believe is accurate and to confirm that they are comfortable being identified as the source.
Sharing
We do not sell personal information.
Tycoon does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Information is handled by a small number of service providers, acting only on our instructions: Supabase (database and form processing), Resend (outbound email), Cloudflare (domain, network protection, and the source of the IP information described above), Google Workspace (correspondence sent to and from our published addresses), Plausible (privacy-preserving site measurement, described below), and the platform that hosts this website, which also received form submissions made before 8 September 2026.
Information may also be disclosed when legally required or reasonably necessary to protect people, Tycoon, or the integrity of the selection process.
Measurement
We count visits. We do not build profiles.
Tycoon uses a privacy-preserving analytics service to understand how many people visit the site, which pages they read, and which link brought them here. It does not use cookies, does not track you across other websites, and does not create a profile of you. We see totals and trends, not individuals.
If you follow a tagged link from an email or a social post, the site records which one, so we can tell where interest is coming from. That is stored with your submission only if you choose to submit something.
Retention
We keep only what has a reason to remain.
Interest-list information is retained until you unsubscribe or it is no longer useful for the purpose described. Selection records, including nominations, may be retained for up to three years to document decisions, evaluate a later request, and protect process integrity. Inquiries are retained while the conversation is live and for a reasonable period afterward. Member records may be retained for the duration of membership and as needed afterward for legal, accounting, archival, or institutional purposes.
Technical information collected for security and rate limiting is retained with the submission it belongs to. Records may be deleted or de-identified earlier when appropriate.
Your choices
Access, correction, deletion, and updates.
You may ask what information Tycoon holds about you, request a correction or deletion, withdraw from nonessential updates, or ask a question about this policy.
If you joined the interest list, every email we send carries an unsubscribe link that works immediately and without reply. Joining the interest list also requires confirming your address by email, so you cannot be added to it by someone else.
If you were nominated, you may ask us what a nomination contains, ask us to delete it, or ask us not to contact you. You do not need to know who nominated you in order to ask.
Some information may be retained where reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or to document a completed selection decision.

The effective date will be updated here. Material changes affecting information already collected will be communicated when reasonably possible.
